Sydney, Australia - March 24, 2003 The Internet consumer can now book over 800 hotels in 25 different countries using Globekey's real-time reservations software. Hotels and travel portal websites lease the Globekey software on a monthly basis, adding links to their websites so that guests can check availability and confirm their rooms instantly. "Hotels around the world are increasingly interested in generating business direct from their own websites - 'Check Availability' and 'Book Now' features are essential to a successful hotel website", said Sarah Capes, Globekey's Marketing Director. "Hotels are realising that a direct Internet reservation costs significantly less than a GDS or 3rd party reservation". By 2006, the Internet will contribute over 18% of all hotel bookings (eMarketer). Globekey is one of the few companies offering a booking engine for a fixed monthly fee, with no commission on reservations and no transaction fees. Typically Globekey costs a hotel less than one room night per month. Globekey appointed Linda Ruane as their US representative in October 2002, and Globekey's US business has increased dramatically as a result. Linda said "Hotels have been amazed by the cost-savings they have achieved as a result of adding Globekey to their websites". Current research indicates that websites without a real-time reservations facility lose 20% of potential online bookers and this percentage is increasing all the time. Globekey is confident that independent hotels, motels and guest houses will soon decide to follow the lead of the multi-nationals, almost all of whom already have a booking engine on their websites. Currently many independent hotels rely on 3rd party sites for their Internet business but this is changing. The process from sign-on to activation was quick and smooth. Our first reservation came within a few days and the percentages have increased weekly." Globekey has representatives in 14 countries and is expanding this list, particularly in Europe. As a result of several regional hotel chains expressing an interest in buying the software, for use on an unlimited number of websites, Globekey has now launched sales of licensed copies. A licensed copy offers a turn-key solution to large hotels and travel operators wishing to add a booking engine to multiple websites. Duncan Webb, Vice-President Sales and Marketing at Amari Hotels & Resorts in Thailand, said "I believe that the availability of online confirmation is essential to hotel companies seeking to maximise their revenue from the Internet. The multiple features of the software have also proved useful in areas of yield management and marketing data." The Globekey software was designed by tourism industry experts and offers a flexible booking engine for hotel, tour operator and travel portal websites. Some hotels are using the Globekey software for corporate client reservations, giving their key clients a password-protected link into the system so that they can confirm rooms instantly at their agreed corporate rates. The system works in the same way for wholesale tour operators. "I have been very happy with the number of reservations which the Globekey booking engine has generated for the resort" said Chris Ong, General Manager of the Nirwana Gardens Resort on Bintan Island, Indonesia. There is no 'sign up' cost for a hotel to join Globekey, and hotels are not locked into a long-term contract. Prices for leasing the software start at US$30 per month for a small hotel. Hotels can be up and running on Globekey within 24 hours. Most Reservations Managers take just half a day to enter data into the 'back office', over the Internet. A hotel webmaster needs less than an hour to add a small amount of coding to link his website to Globekey. Weekly maintenance of the system takes only a few minutes on the Internet. Roland Aung, Front Office Manager at the Tai Pan Hotel in Bangkok, said "I am impressed by how easy it is to use the Globekey software. I completed initial data entry in just a few hours and our webmaster needed only 30 minutes to add a small amount of coding to link Globekey to www.tai-pan.com. Globekey gave us a low-cost solution to receiving instant reservations from our website". In addition to its turn-key solution for real-time reservations, Globekey is also customising its software to meet specific client needs. Customisation projects to date include a system to handle reservations from international sales offices for a river cruiser, and a facility on a travel portal website to show only hotels with rooms available for requested dates.
